Topdressing your lawn.

Top dressing your yard means adding a thin layer of screened loam across your entire lawn. This layer of loam can help fill in low areas and it also adds nutrients to your existing lawn.

Top dressing your lawn before you seed is very important and should preferably done, if you plant to seed, in spring or fall. To learn more about seeding your lawn visit our overseeding your lawn page Top dressing is fairly straight forward and you need minimal tools to complete the job. Choose a good quality screened loam that is mainly weed free. Make very certain that your lawn is of a powdery texture and not full of chunks, a chunky loam will make it very difficult to spread properly. Look for a screened loam that is not full of any stones. If you choose you can also add a little compost to the loam to make it more nutrient rich for your seed and exisiting lawn.
